First Cousins, Frances Durfee and Edna Summers

Frances Durfee and Edna Summers (1st cousins)

Frances Durfee’s information will be covered in a post with her siblings.

Edna Summers was the daughter of James Thomas Summers and Ida Frances Dunlap. She was one of three children born to this couple.

There are been other posts of photos of Beulah Summers on this blog. This post best outlines all the information that has already been found for this family group. http://lawsonresearch.blogspot.com/2015/09/beulah-summers-anderson.html

It is guesstimated that this photo was taken about 1903 in Lassen County, California. Her family was in Lassen County for years. I find her father in Lassen County from the 1880 census through his death in 1949.

Edna Summers went on to marry Raymond Rex Anderson (1889-1972). They married in 1910 and had three children; Gilbert Rex Anderson; Beulah Burnice Anderson; Darrell Thomas Anderson.

Lizzie Dunlap Durfee, Nellie St. John, Harry St. John, Pauline Lorenzen, Bieber, Lassen County, California

The next photo album belonging to Esther Durfee has now been scanned. By this time she was Esther Durfee Crews. Photos of many people, sadly no photos of Esther are located in the album. These photos cover the time frame from about 1919 to 1923.

It is believed that most of the photos were taken in Bieber, Lassen County, California. There are of course exceptions to this and they are noted when found.

Today’s photos are of Lizzie Dunlap Durfee. They were taken about 1921-1923. Lizzie was my great grandmother. Her full name was Elizabeth Ann Dunlap but she preferred Lizzie Ann Dunlap.

"Mama" was Lizzie Dunlap Durfee (on left, dark skirt, white blouse); Frances Durfee Gassaway on right and child was Pauline Lorenzen.

"Mother" was Lizzie Dunlap Durfee (dark skirt, white blouse), Nellie St. John (behind Lizzie); Frances Durfee Gassaway (behind post); Harry St. John on steps.

Frances Durfee, Bieber, Lassen County, California, ca 1917

My grandmother, Esther Durfee, was a budding photographer while living as a young woman with her parents in Bieber, Lassen County, California. Her father, Thomas Jefferson Durfee was the postmaster there over many years. When young Esther got her first camera she seemed to have made it her mission to photograph every person within the community, or so it seemed! The first photo album has had all the people who were identified in it, scanned.

Today I would like to introduce you to my great aunt, Frances Durfee. Photo taken about 1917 (could have been 1918).

Frances Durfee and her mother, Lizzie Ann Dunlap Durfee.
