Emma J. Campbell was enumerated with her husband Horace and daughters Elsie and Julia E. 
on 23 June 1880. They were living in Sutter Creek, Amador County, California.[1]
The family group:
Head, Horace Campbell, age 41, born Illinois, parents born Vermont. Teamster
Wife, Emma J., 30, born New Hampshire, parents born New Hampshire, School Teacher
Daughter, Elsie, age 7, born California
Daughter, Julia E. age 5, born Mass.
There is no 1890 census.
By 1900 the family has grown. They are still living in Amador County, California.[2]
The family group:
Head, Horace Campbell, b. Jun 1839, Vermont (does not match 1880 information). He is now a Mine Engineer
Wife, Emma J., b. Nov 1849, Married 27 years, children 4 born 3 living. Emma was born in New Hampshire.
Daughter, Claire, b. Feb 1887, age 13, California
Son-in-law, Todd C. Woodworth, b. June 1874, Nova Scotia as were his parents
Wife  Julia C, b. Oct 1876, Massachusetts. Married 5 years, children 3 born, 2 living.
Son, Douglas B., b. Jan 1896, age 4, California
Son, Horace C. b. Jan 1900, age 5/12, b. California.
It would appear that daughter Elsie has married and moved out of her parent’s home.


Emma Merrill Campbell died 27 April 1904, in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.[3] She was a widow of Horace Campbell. Her father was William Merrill; born Warren, NH. Her mother was Elsie Bixby; born Warren, NH. The Massachusetts death index indicates that Emma was also born in Warren, NH.

Emma Merrill Campbell was buried at the Sutter Creek City Cemetery, Amador County, California.[4] She was buried with her husband Horace who had died in 1901.
