January 2012 Goals

We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
- Aristotle
We all need goals to move our skills and accomplishments forward. There are a group of us working on our goals. Our hope is that by making our goals public we'll be more inclined to make those goals a reality. Join us in eating that elephant one bite at a time! I know that I alone hold the key to my success in 2012.

December 2011 goals were met. One item not yet finished, the photo album. Added to January goals.

My 2012 goals are to finish creating that lesson plan. It will consist of 8-10 lessons. (best guess right now)

I also want to finish my KDP. Working for a living and trying to add extras to the plate always get to be challenging.

January 2012 Goals

One Small Goal: Finish that photo album I started in December. Close out the books for 2011, and get everything ready for the CPA.

One Bigger Goal: Write 2 chapters for a study group lesson plan
Close the books for 2011 - review Quicken reports and get them ready for CPA, tax prep.

One Long Term Goal: Review and begin tweaking the source citations to my KDP (Kinship Determination Project).

It all started here in December 2011, with Stephanie at Corn And Cotton: My Family's Story; Terri at Finding Our Ancestors; and Denise at Denise's Genealogy Journey.

December's Goals Updated!

This is my updated list of December goals. I realize I have just a bit of time yet to get that one last item finished, but I was relishing a visit from my daughter who I only see for one week a year. She was my priority this week.

If you would like to participate with us and map out your goals for each month, broken down into weekly steps, please send Stephanie a note.

I am taking up the inspiration I found online from Stephanie at Corn and Cotton: My Family's Story and Terri's Finding OurAncestors and Denise's Genealogy Journey all posted today. They are stating their goals for the month, and then we’ll inspire each other to accomplish the goals, and set new ones every month. This might actually be very motivating for me! Thank you all for the inspiration, I really appreciate it!

December will be a busy month already so my goal list will be short. December is toast!

My goals for December:
  1. Write 3 blog posts. At least one for my Genealogy and Other Thoughts  and 2 for My Wonderful Family - Done
  2. Get the pile of photos on the work table in date order and start (maybe finish) putting them in a photo album. - Almost, photos organized and in date order, grouped by family and ready to go into book.
  3. Scan more of the photos on said work table- All of the photos are Done
  4. Create a blogging schedule and an idea list for future blogs - Done
  5. Do indexing at least once per week for FamilySearch - Done

Thank you for your inspiration, now I need to get to work! In the months ahead I’ll try to stay with Stephanie’s goal format (noted below), but no promises. Just making goals is a step in the right direction for me!

Blog Caroling

There are so many Christmas songs I enjoy, how could I pick just one? I went to YouTube to get an idea. I only need one... but Frank is there singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas . And Bing is there singing Do You Hear What I Hear? And then there is Dean signing about Silver Bells. And there were more, but I'd already spent an hour. Let's just say I love Christmas music and I can't pick just one!

Did you know I give genealogy lectures?

I do public speaking. I don’t usually mention that in my posts, but I do enjoy having the opportunity to share what I know about genealogy. I especially enjoy sharing my passion for forensic genealogy.

Lectures I enjoy giving

Newspaper Research: Find it in the Past, Preserve it for the Future
Jump Start Your Genealogy
Doing On-Site Research: Going There, Walking Their Ground...
Planning a Successful Reunion
Keeper of the Stones: Online Cemeteries

Webinars

I’ve not yet led one, but I have taken classes (via webinar) on how to produce a webinar of my own. I’d be happy to investigate this further with you if this is something you would be interested in doing.
